School of Forest Resources

School of Forest Resources LogoWelcome to the UMaine School of Forest Resources! As one of the oldest and most respected forest resource programs in the country, our faculty and students are at the forefront of innovative education and research in managing forests, protecting landscapes, and meeting society’s ever-growing and diverse needs from the forest.

Prospective Students

Our students prepare for careers sustainably managing forestlands, designing nature-based recreation and tourism opportunities, and developing wood-based bioproducts for a renewable green economy.

Student Focus

Erin Quigley
Erin Quigley is studying how stakeholders come together to address the threat of Emerald Ash Borer in Maine.

Alumni & Friends

Donna Cassese, class of 1976
In 1994, Sappi Westbrook shifted to the manufacture of release paper only. “If we’d stayed with printing and publishing, we never would have made it,” says mill manager Donna Cassese. Not making it is anathema to Cassese, who herself represents change. The first woman to manage the Westbrook mill, Cassese grew up in the Bronx and, as a forestry major at the University of Maine, was the first in her family to attend college.

Spotlights

UMaine Woodsmen's Team Meet
The Woodsmen’s team hosted a fun and exciting Home Meet last March before respectably finishing-off the season at Dartmouth College for the Northeast Collegiate Spring Meet Championship.

Our students and faculty work hard, but every once in a while we like to get out and have some fun. Check out the photos from the first School of Forest Resources Faculty vs. Grad Students (and Friends) Fishing Tournament and Canoe Trip.
