Forestry Alumnus, State Senator Thomas B. Saviello ‘78, visits UMaine

Saviello-wborder-for-webState Senator Thomas B. Saviello, MS in Agronomy and PhD in Forest Resources from the University of Maine, and a Distinguished Maine Policy Fellow, visited the University of Maine on December 4, 2013.  Senator Saviello met with several School of Forest Resources faculty, including Steve Shaler, Bob Seymour and Ivan Fernandez.  Fernandez is a former classmate, and he and Senator Saviello were both studying under Dr. Roland Struchtemeyer in the mid-late 70’s.  The Senator also met with a diverse group of graduate students in the College of Natural Sciences, Forestry and Agriculture, and spoke with undergraduate students in Dr. Rob Lilieholm’s Forest Landscape Management & Planning class.

Senator Saviello retired in 2010 after nearly 33 years in the forest products industry.  Presently, he is an adjunct professor at the University of Maine at Farmington and resides in Wilton.
