Disclaimer:

Forestry students are recommended to have a Microsoft Windows personal laptop computer that is powerful enough to support the demanding requirements necessary to complete the coursework. This ranges from creating maps on ArcGIS Pro, running complex Microsoft Excel formulas, and creating forest models in Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS). On the right are the minimum and recommended system requirements, and below are the recommended laptops; both can be purchased from the UMaine Book Store.

Minimum System Requirements:

  • Operating System: Windows 10 (64-bit)
  • Processor: 3.3 GHz or higher.
  • Memory: 12 GB RAM
  • Hard Drive: 256 GB Capacity
  • Graphics: Must work reliably with ArcGIS Mapping software.

Recommended System Requirements:

  • Operating System: Windows 11 Pro
  • Processor: Intel Core Ultra 7
  • Memory: minimum 16 GB
  • Hard Drive: minimum 500 GB capacity, solid state drive (SSD)
  • Graphics: Intel Arc Graphics
  • Warranty: 4 Year onsite with accidental damage coverage
