Patty Cormier

Patty Cormier (Bs, 1988)

Patty Cormier was named to the position of Director of the Maine Forest Service (MFS) and Maine State Forester in the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry in 2019. She
is responsible for overseeing the Forest Protection, Forest Policy and Management, and Forest Health and Monitoring divisions of the Maine Forest Service.

Cormier has over 20 years of experience as a Forester with the MFS. Prior to the MFS, she worked as a Landowner Assistance Forester for Georgia Pacific Corporation. She has been a
strong advocate for forest fire prevention and management, serving on multiple forestry
committees, including the National Fire Committee and the Northeast-Midwest State Foresters Association Fire Committee and the Cooperative Forest Fire Prevention committee.

She was elected President of the National Association of State Foresters (NASF) in September 2024, the first Mainer to hold the position in 59 years. The NASF is a non-profit organization representing forestry agency directors from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and eight U.S. territories. The association promotes the sustainable management of state and private forests, which comprise two-thirds of the nation’s forested lands.

Cormier graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Forest Management from the University of
Maine in 1988. She grew up in Kingfield, Maine, and currently resides in Farmington, Maine,
where she is currently the President of the Farmington Rotary Club and a member of the
Farmington Fire Rescue department.
