Student Chapter – Forest Products Society
The UMaine FPS is the student chapter of the Madison-based Forest Products Society, an international technical association that provides an information network for all segments of the forest products industry. A regular activity of the UMaine student chapter is to involve students of wood science major and minor to participate in activities that tap the benefits of networking. To promote involvement, the student chapter sets up display booths in major fairs held in campus to recruit for new members and to disseminate information on the wood science degree program of UMaine. New student membership for the society is normally sponsored by the student chapter. The student chapter also organizes and facilitates talks given by people from the industry and invited scientists. Additionally, it also co-organizes student/staff social events in college level through participation in the Student Advisory Committee of the College of Natural Sciences, Forestry, and Agriculture.
