Xi Sigma Pi – Forestry Honor Society
Xi Sigma Pi is a national honor society which recognizes outstanding students in forest resources and wildlife ecology. Members are recognized for achieving a high standard of academic excellence, and for excelling in their prospective fields through dedication, commitment, and hard work. The objectives of the society are to secure and maintain a high standard of scholarship in forestry education, to work towards the development of foresters, and to promote cooperative relations among professionals. The Gamma Chapter of Xi Sigma Pi at the University of Maine is most notably involved in the annual Christmas tree sales to raise money for student scholarships within the School of Forest Resources and the Department of Wildlife Ecology. We also encourage networking with local forestry and natural resource professionals, as well as active participation and leadership in activities pertaining to members’ prospective fields. Individuals must be nominated for membership into the society on the basis of grade point average and professional involvement.
